About MMS

History

Established in 1961 as Pocono Catholic Missions School serving grades 1 through 12, the elementary portion of the school was renamed Monsignor McHugh School after its visionary founder, Monsignor Connell McHugh who was at the time pastor of St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mount Pocono. Upon the closing of the high school in the late 1980s, the elementary portion of the school was able to expand to use the entire building.

While Monsignor McHugh School welcomes students of all faiths, we teach a rigorous Catholic curriculum. Besides teaching students to be prepared academically for the next step in their educational careers, we believe that religion can and should be used to guide their daily decision making. We work to teach the faith, and form their consciences to prepare them for life. Religion is taught on a daily basis, and Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, prayer services, rosary devotions, and Stations of the Cross, are held on a regular basis.
